More Died in the ‘Northern War of Aggression’
than all American Wars Combined
The ‘Civil War’ was often called “Lincoln’s War”, since it was Lincoln who made the call to arms. It was Lincoln who could have avoided the war or ended at will. Both Confederate and Union soldiers accurately labeled the war “a rich man’s war”. Without the strong support from the Wall Street elite and the merchants and men of commerce, especially from New York City, Lincoln could not have gone to war against the South.
It was the financial well-being of the North and the Northern Industrials that moved the Northern armies to force the South back into the Union.
